7 Ways To Keep Your Rental Property Sanitized & Safe

During the pandemic we've had to change a lot of things on how we live, work and interact with one another. And one word keeps cropping up during these very hard times, and that's sanitization.

.We wear masks when we go out. There are signs up in our buildings telling us to stay six feet apart. And we wash our hands frequently to keep the germs at bay? But what about what goes on inside our property we are renting? Here are 7 Ways To Keep You and Your Property Rental Sanitized and Safe.

Fresh Air

Opening your windows once you get home will allow the fresh air from the great outdoors to filter in through your rental. This is good because room air can lay stagnant, allowing stale airborne particle matter to sit within your rental, not only making things smell bad, but keeps these particles indoors for you to breathe. So air it out and keep things fresh.

Keep It Clean

In the days before the pandemic, we used a variety of different type of cleaners to keep our homes fresh and clean. Nowadays, you need to use stronger cleaners such as bleach to help rid your home of viruses. Lysol with Lemon is a great product to use on your counter tops, bathroom sinks, door knobs and light switches. Make sure you wipe down and wash all high traffic areas inside your home people touch frequently. And if you do use stronger chemicals to keep your home clean make sure you wear gloves to protect your hands.

Furniture

Many renters ask what about my furniture, how can I keep it clean and free of viruses? That's a good question with an easy answer. Opt to use a deep steam cleaner for all your rugs and upholstered furniture. There are many brands on the market, and even some great hand held devices that will help keep your furniture clean and protected.

Wash on Hot

Normally many of us use cold water to wash our clothes to not only lower the cost but the consumption of hot water we are using. But during the pandemic it's wise to wash all your linens, bedding, and even clothing you wear outside to the grocery stores or in and around public spaces using hot water cycles. Washing with hot water kills bacteria and germs when they stick to our clothing.

Keep Your Shoes At The Door

I know it might sound funny, but when we were kids, taking our shoes off in someone's home or even our own was a respectful thing to do. And although today that respect still stands, keeping your shoes at the door is good for other reasons. Did you know that virus particles can stick to the bottom of your shoes? Not to mention dirt and debris we walk around in, which we can track through our rental unit.

By keeping your shoes at the door, wiping them down with a soapy rag and disposing of the rag and then washing our hands, we are keeping ourselves safer. Not to mention our apartments cleaner, and that's not such a bad thing.

Wash Dishes Right Away

It may seem like a silly thing. I mean, who doesn't want a clean kitchen? But food particles left on our dishes to sit on our counters overnight or for days on end can breed bacteria which can make us sick. So after cooking, it is recommended that you at least soak your dishes in the sink before washing, and wipe your counters down to eliminate the spread of bacteria. Plus it only takes a few minutes of your time to do something that will help keep your rental safe and clean.

Put Things Away

Have you ever taken something you needed out from the spot it belongs, only to put it somewhere else after, and then you can't find it? That's why it's important to put things back where you got them. Everything in your home should have a place. That way when you want to find it later you can find without any trouble. Plus it helps keep your clutter down and makes cleaning your rental unit that much easier.

There are many things you can do to help your rental property be safe and clean not just during this pandemic but forever, so that you and your loved ones can enjoy where you are living.

Simple easy steps can be taken daily to ensure your health is first priority and your unit isn't left with bacteria, germs and other viruses which can infect you. A little goes a long way. 15 minutes a day can keep the clutter down and keep your home a place you can relax without any worries on your mind.

Stay Safe!
